Northwest Arkansas, sitting right in the middle of the Ozarks, is known for its beautiful natural scenery (thus called “the natural state”), and one of parts of the great NWA is its waterfalls. Whether you’re an avid hiker or simply enjoy the beauty of nature, these(waterfalls in northwest arkansas) are a must-see.
If you love nature, and waterfalls are on your list, you won’t want to miss these. Here are my top 5 favorite waterfalls in Northwest Arkansas.
1. Hemmed-In Hollow Falls
If you love an adventure, this waterfall is for you. Hemmed-In is just that, hemmed in. You will need to put in a little effort to get there! The waterfalls in Northwest Arkansas may not be quite as tall as Angel Falls in Venezuala, but Hemmed-In Hollow is the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalachians, at over 200 feet!
There are a couple of ways to reach the falls:
- If you love a good hike, tackle the 5.1-mile round-trip hike (it’s challenging but worth it and not too challenging). OR
- You can bring a canoe and take the lazy float in. Make sure you confirm canoe season on the Buffalo River between March and June. Otherwise you still might be taking the hike.
2. Glory Hole Waterfalls in Northwest Arkansas
Glory Hole Falls is one of the most unique {waterfalls in northwest arkansas}, as the water drops through a hole in the rock before falling 31 feet to the pool below.
I love a good hike, and this one is not too bad.
The hike to the falls is just shy of 2-miles round-trip, and it’s hard to get lost. LOTS of signs to keep you on the right path. Be sure to bring your camera (the signs sometimes won’t be believed without evidence!), oh, and the falls make for some great photo opps.
3. Kings River Falls
Kings River Falls is a beautiful 6-foot waterfall that drops into a crystal-clear pool, perfect for swimming on a hot day.
If you have kids or people with you that can’t cover a ton of ground, Kings River might be for you. Getting to the falls and back is easy peasy, it’s about a mile round-trip, and if you bring snacks you can take breaks!.
4. Triple Falls
What’s better than one waterfall in Northwest Arkansas? How about three in one place? That is just what Triple Falls is. A Series of three waterfalls that flow into one another, creating a stunning cascade that’s not to be missed.
Pack your hiking boots! The hike to see the triplettes is a 3-mile round-trip, and there are a few steep sections, but when’s the last time you got a 3 and 1?
5. Tanyard Creek Falls
Tanyard Creek Falls is a small but beautiful waterfall that drops 6 feet into a shallow pool below.
Do you like wildflowers? If so, the 1 mile (there and back) hike to the falls should be fun and easy.
While all of the waterfalls on this list are worth visiting, Tanyard Creek Falls holds a special place in my heart.
When I first visited, it just made me stop and think. Watching the water falling down the rocks and into the pool below, creating a sound that made me wonder why I stayed away from adventure and seeing new things for so long.
As I sat on the rocks nearby, I watched families with children wading in the shallow water and couples taking romantic photos.
Since that first visit, I’ve returned to Tanyard Creek Falls several times, and each time it’s just as magical as the first. I’ve brought friends and family with me to share the experience, and each time they’re equally enchanted by the beauty of the falls.
Check out Tanyard Creek Falls in Northwest Arkansas. It is worth it.
